Over the past several years, probably 5 plus, our family stopped doing the dreaded Christmas shopping.  You see typically if we need something we go purchase it.  Our typical Christmas morning is waking up having breakfast and exchanging Christmas cards.  This year my daughter and I decided we would "adopt" a family through the Volunteers of America Organization .  We did not want to get into the present buying especially this close to the holiday and not knowing this family also played a big role in it. You see our "adopted" family is a single mom with 2 young boys, ages 3 and 7 and unfortunately she was just let go from her factory job because she could not get child care for her boys in order to work on Saturday's.  So we opted for buying groceries and also throwing in a grocery store gift card so she could buy the perishable items for her family.  Knowing the families circumstances we decided to get a few items for the boys and a few items to help...

Welcome Jackson Today I traveled to Lewisburg , PA, about 2 hours from our home, to see the two little shih tzu's that were available for adoption.  Prior to leaving the house my husband told me, and I quote, "do not come home with both".  When I saw the two together you could see they were already bonding so it was difficult not to take both.  For once I listened to my husband.  So Bud, if you are reading my blog mark your calendar that today, May 14, 2010 I listened to your words of wisdom.  It may never happen again!!  LOL ....  Jackson's story....He is 2 years old and weighs about 12 pounds; he came from a back yard breeder.  For 2 years he spent his days in a cage, never being held, never having a clean bed, probably never a bath.  Bless Susan for taking him and 4 others from this person.  Susan gave him a much needed haircut and bath and this week he was neutered.  So although Jackson is 2 yrs old it is like having a puppy...

One word explains it.. . frustrated !   I understand that the pet rescue organizations are volunteer operated.  But what frustrates me is that with so many animals looking for new, secure homes and people like me looking to bring in another fur kid one would think they would move a little faster.  On Monday it will be three weeks since I completed the application for Mushi .  I sent an email last week asking if I was even being considered.  Nothing, no response at all.  Now come on people!  My one sister in law has told me that in her next life she wants to come back as one of my pets because as she tells it "do they know they won the lottery"!  So my frustration continues but I am not waiting around.  I have completed yet another adoption application for a little guy named Trevor.  Here is Trevor's picture.. the four legged kind.  I have been trying and trying to get another dog for company for Colby, my male, neutered shih tzu.  I completed an adoption application while in Florida and they called and did the phone interview and then 2 weeks went by and nothing.  Now I'm back in PA and have completed an application with a rescue place in New York and I'm waiting, and waiting... Here is the picture of the shih tzu I'm interested in.  Her name is Mushi (moo shee).    I'm also thinking about completing the adoption application for this little cutie called Christmas Cookie.  Now I'm only looking to adopt one, not both.  Let me know your thoughts.
